More Photos of Nice

As the capital of France’s Mediterranean border district - the arresting Cote D’Azur - Nice’s Bay of Angels curves around a shimmering pale-blue watery background, and is home to plenty in the way of palm trees, cocktails, umbrellas (strictly for keeping off the sun in these parts), pricey yachts and sparkling, polished pebbles. Arrive in the summer, and it’s tempting to flop down on the gently sloping sands and stay put until the bars come to life.

While it might not quite match up to magnificent Monaco in terms of wealth and riches, Nice’s pay off is in the city being far more affordable, and home to an exciting range of culture that can take you away from the beach without breaking the bank. Nightlife here is balmy and fashionable (dress down to impress), while plenty flock to the city for its striking art scene, too.

Both the Zen structures of the Asian Art Museum and the memorable interlinked towers of the Museum of Contemporary and Modern Art are well worth a trip, with both introducing a startling array of of-the-minute work from around the world, while those with a more ancient aesthetic might prefer the intricacies of the 17th century baroque Palais Lascaris (complete with ornate staircase and its own beguiling old pharmacy) or the countless specimens on display at the Museum of Natural History. There’s a revolving door of impressive temporary exhibits to be found downtown, too.

It would be a waste not to explore the Colline Du Chateaux, its shady Mediterranean panorama and the ornate waterfalls overlooking the town, or for shopping addicts, to make the most of the city’s astounding selection of enticing boutiques. You can even hire yourself a wobbly looking two-wheeled Segway to explore the city on, and wind round the local heritage walks the lazy way. Most of all, though, Nice is the perfect spot to relax, perhaps head out to sea and swim off the side of a yacht, and make enjoy temperate nights on the beach sipping on a colorful cocktail before diving into the city’s manic nightlife.
